'When The World Comes Down' is the third album by American pop-rock act All-American Rejects. Popular for their spiky and melodic pop-rock, along with bands such as OK Go and Fall Out Boy, this third outing sees the continuation of their enthusiastic and quirky sound. Includes the singles 'Gives You Hell', which peaked in the top twenty of the UK Singles chart and No.3 on the Australian Singles chart and 'Mona Lisa [When The World Comes Down]'. The album includes a hidden track ['Sunshine'] which I have extracted for your listening convenience and called Track 12. This is the UK Edition of the album with additional bonus tracks.

Son Volt returns with ‘American Central Dust,’ out July 7 on Rounder Records, a plaintive 12-song collection that recalls the melodic succinctness of the band’s debut album ‘Trace.’ After the musical experimentation of 2007’s ‘The Search, ’ ‘American Central Dust,’ the band’s first album on Rounder, refines the band’s robust sound. Fiddle, pedal steel, lap steel and sparkling piano add an atmospheric nuance to Son Volt’s Americana inspired rock, surrounding band leader Jay Farrar’s stream of consciousness lyrical imagery.

Album highlights include; the rootsy shuffle of album opener “Dynamite,” on which Farrar declares “this love is like celebrating the 4th of July with dynamite,” the tremolo soaked rocker “Down To The Wire,’ the gorgeous, piano led “Cocaine And Ashes,” an empathetic tribute to Keith Richards, references a man who’s “the same as everyone, just kind of lucky,” and ‘Sweetheart of the Rodeo’-esque rocker “No Turning Back.”

When asked about signing to the new label, Farrar said "Rounder has shown a long term commitment to music forms, like folk and blues, that I have a lot of respect for. Going with Rounder has been a kind of a full circle continuum -- the first Rounder person I met with was instrumental in booking Uncle Tupelo gigs years ago"

Audio-Visions is the seventh studio album, and eighth album overall, by American rock band Kansas, released in 1980 (see 1980 in music). Kerry Livgren's recent conversion to Christianity is first heard on this album, primarily in the lyrics to "Hold On" (which was written as an evangelistic plea to his wife) and "No One Together." The album was to be the last album with the band's original lineup until 2000's Somewhere to Elsewhere and coincidentally the band's last studio album to be certified Gold by the RIAA (which it did in December 1980)

The Saints are an Australian rock band, formed in Brisbane in 1974. They are considered to be one of the first and most influential punk groups. By 1975, contemporaneous with the Ramones, The Saints were employing the fast tempos, raucous vocals and "buzzsaw" guitar that characterised early punk rock. With their first single "(I'm) Stranded", in late 1976, they released a record ahead of better-known punk acts like the Sex Pistols and The Clash. Bob Geldof has been quoted as saying, "Rock music in the Seventies was changed by three bands — the Sex Pistols, the Ramones and The Saints".

Originally dismissed as a Led Zeppelin knockoff, Whitesnake, fronted by ex-Deep Purple singer David Coverdale, clattered around their hometown of Yorkshire, England for about six years before being discovered in the U.S. Their U.S. debut (fourth album) Slide It In (1984) captured the libidinous, restless spirit of frustrated youth, and climbed to No. 40 on the Billboard album chart. Eventually, it went double platinum on the back of the stealthy, pulsing "Slow An' Easy" and the propulsive title track. Shortly before recording the album, Coverdale recruited former Thin Lizzy guitarist John Sykes, who provided the band with the flair and technical wizardry it needed to become a contender in the big-hair, pop metal sweepstakes.

Track List:
1. SLIDE IT IN
2. SLOW AN' EASY
3. LOVE AIN'T NO STRANGER
4. ALL OR NOTHING

When Whitesnake broke into the spotlight with Slide It In (1984), a battalion of cynical critics predicted the band's success couldn't last, but Coverdale and company silenced all the naysayers with 1987's self-titled album, which rocketed to No. 2 on the Billboard album chart. The record was driven by the pumping rocker "Here I Go Again" and the tender power ballad "Is This Love," but the band's mainstream appeal might have had as much to do with their unabashedly sexual videos as with their bubblegum metal. The clips, which seemed to splash across MTV every 20 minutes, starred Coverdale's girlfriend and B-movie actress Tawny Kitaen, and highlighted her busty, scantily clad body in various provocative poses. Volume and T&A--a metalhead's wet dream.

This 1991 concert film was shot in the IMAX format and was originally presented on enormous IMAX screens, with outstanding visual and audio clarity. The dimensions may have been scaled down for this DVD release, but the show is still huge in energy and talent. Filmed during a European leg of the Rolling Stones' Steel Wheels tour, this production boasts 15 songs and an extraordinary stage set with inflatable floozies (for "Honky Tonk Woman") and wild dogs (rather cleverly for "Street Fighting Man"). The Stones' set emphasizes material from the late 1960s and early '70s ("Tumbling Dice," "Happy," "You Can't Always Get What You Want"), but the band's performance is so furious that the show is far from a pandering oldies act. Highlights include "Paint It Black," at once brutal and delicate, as well as a muscular "Rock and a Hard Place," a psychedelicized "2,000 Light Years from Home," and a cheeky "It's Only Rock 'n' Roll." Once kings of a gloriously sloppy sound, the Stones prove to be as effective in their artistic maturity with small, breathtaking touches as they are with chunky orchestration. Guitarists Keith Richards and Ron Wood play as if they are of one mind, Richards providing powerful leads while his partner captures some of the texture of the group's original recordings. Bassist Bill Wyman, still in the band at this phase, offers wit and an encyclopedic grasp of rhythm & blues history, while drummer Charlie Watts adds control and swing. Mick Jagger prowls, climbs around the set, and delivers all the charismatic goods for adoring audiences, even touching the forbidden fruit again in a feverish peformance of "Sympathy for the Devil." The DVD also includes a full Stones discography. --Tom Keogh

A stunning self-reinvention by a band that many had given up for dead, 90125 is the album that introduced a whole new generation of listeners to Yes. Begun as Cinema, a new band by Chris Squire and Alan White, the project grew to include the slick production of Trevor Horn, the new blood (and distinctly '80s guitar sound) of Trevor Rabin, and eventually the trademark vocals of returning founder Jon Anderson. His late entry insured that Rabin and Horn had a heavy influence on the sound. The album also marked the return of prodigal keyboardist Tony Kaye, whose crisp synth work on "Changes" marked the band's definitive break with its art rock roots. "Owner of a Lonely Heart" was a huge crossover hit, and its orchestral break has been relentlessly sampled by rappers ever since. The vocal harmonies of "Leave It" and the beautifully sprawling "Hearts" are additional high points, but there's nary a duff track on the album. [90125 was reissued by Rhino in 2004 with six bonus tracks, including the previously unissued "It's Over," plus remixes of the singles "Leave It," "Owner of a Lonely Heart," and "It Can Happen."]

Creed - Greatest Hits

Creed weren't just one of many two-album wonders of the post-grunge late '90s, they were the biggest of the two-album wonders, selling more records and crashing harder than any other their peers. All the while they produced unflappably earnest heavy rock -- music that sounded like Pearl Jam, only not nearly as much fun. They also traded on Pearl Jam's unfortunate tendency to place sheer emotion and sound over hooks, and since Creed weren't as powerful or interesting musically as the Seattle quartet, that meant that their albums could sound rather samey in the long haul. Nevertheless, their sincerity resonated among mainstream listeners irritated that Pearl Jam went weird after Vs., and with 2000s "With Arms Wide Open," they had a power ballad hit with universal appeal that helped break them through to an even wider audience than they had before. It, naturally, is the literal centerpiece of Creed's 2004 Greatest Hits, arriving in the middle of the 13-song album. Since it remains their biggest and best song, it's only appropriate that it has such a prominent position on this album, because a listen to the entire album reveals that the rest of their material hasn't aged all that well. Still, for those listeners who want to dig back to the halcyon year or two where Creed were one of the biggest bands in the land, Greatest Hits is the way to do it, since it has all of their charting hits, minus the minor radio hit cover of "Riders on the Storm" from the 2000 Doors tribute album Stoned Immaculate. It may not be timeless music, but Greatest Hits does gather all the noteworthy Creed tracks for those who care. [The initial pressings also contained a bonus DVD, containing all of Creed's music videos, along with some live performances. Unfortunately, the menu interface is not well designed -- it is only possible to play the videos individually, there is no "Play All" function.] ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

When the prevailing guitar jingle of "Mr. Jones" cascaded over radio in the early '90s, it was a sure sign that the Counting Crows were a musical force to be reckoned with. Their debut album, August and Everything After, burst at the seams with both dominant pop harmonies and rich, hearty ballads, all thanks to lead singer Adam Duritz. The lone guitar work of "Mr. Jones" coupled with the sweet, in-front pull of Duritz's voice kicked off the album in full force. The starkly beautiful and lonely sounding "Round Here" captured the band's honest yet subtle talent for singing ballads, while "Omaha" is lyrically reminiscent of a Springsteen tune. The fusion of hauntingly smooth vocals with such instruments as the Hammond B-3 organ and the accordion pumped new life into the music scene, and their brisk sound catapulted them into stardom. On "Rain King," the piano takes over as its aloof flair dances behind Duritz with elegant crispness. The slower-paced "Raining in Baltimore" paints a perfectly gray picture and illustrates the band's ease at conveying mood by eliminating the tempo. Most of the songs here engage in overly contagious hooks that won't go away, making for a solid bunch of tunes. Containing the perfect portions of instrumental and vocal conglomeration, the Counting Crows showed off their appealing sound to its full extent with their very first album. ~ Mike DeGagne, All Music Guide

The final album with Jim Morrison in the lineup is by far their most blues-oriented, and the singer's poetic ardor is undiminished, though his voice sounds increasingly worn and craggy on some numbers. Actually, some of the straight blues items sound kind of turgid, but that's more than made up for by several cuts that rate among their finest and most disturbing work. The seven-minute title track was a car-cruising classic that celebrated both the glamour and seediness of Los Angeles; the other long cut, the brooding, jazzy "Riders on the Storm," was the group at its most melodic and ominous. It and the far bouncier "Love Her Madly" were hit singles, and "The Changeling" and "L'America" count as some of their better little-heeded album tracks. An uneven but worthy finale from the original quartet. ~ Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide

An expanded, remastered version of the group's original 1972 compilation. With two extra songs and all the familiar hits restored to their original album version lengths (as opposed to the radio-edit single versions), pound for pound, this is probably the best single-disc Blood Sweat & Tears hits package available.

Sometimes, a greatest-hits set is timed perfectly to gather together a group's most successful and familiar performances just at the point when that group has passed the point of their maximum exposure to the public, but before the public memory has had a chance to fade. That was the case when Columbia Records assembled this compilation for release in early 1972. At that point, Blood, Sweat & Tears had released four albums and scored six Top 40 hits, each of which is heard here. But lead singer David Clayton-Thomas had just quit the group, so that the unit that recorded songs like "You've Made Me So Very Happy" was not working together anymore. And even when Clayton-Thomas returned, the band would continue to decline commercially. As such, BS&T's Greatest Hits captures the band's peak in 11 selections--seven singles chart entries, plus two album tracks from the celebrated debut album when Al Kooper helmed the group, and two more from the Grammy-winning multi-platinum second album. This 1999 reissue contains two bonus tracks not included on the original release. Digitally remastered by Chris Athens (Sony Music Studios, New York)

A terrific retrospective of one of the most enigmatic rock groups ever, "The Best of the Doors," opens with "Break On Through," then takes you on a wild ride through nineteen cuts that illustrate just exactly why this is such an enduring group. Jim Morrison's mesmerizing vocals, Robbie Krieger's "bottle neck" guitar, Ray Manzarek's keyboards and John Densmore's drums combined to create a unique sound, later imitated, but never duplicated by anyone else since. The songs included on this two-disc album open the doors that lead you into the ethereal, sometimes spiritual world of Morrison's poetry. His use of imagery and metaphor is remarkable, especially on such cuts as "Light My Fire," "The Crystal Ship," "People Are Strange," the impassioned "When The Music's Over," the subtly disquieting "Riders On The Storm," and the quintessential Door's song, the spellbinding "The End." Then there's the hard-driving "Roadhouse Blues," and "L.A. Woman;" the admonishing "Five To One;" and the stoic "The Unknown Soldier." There's a lyrical, almost mystic, quality to the music here; a substance that is rare in rock music, and delivered with a pulsating force that is transporting. Morrison's magnetism prevails throughout, and the more you listen to it, the more you realize how good this music really is. I got into The Doors kind of late into my long musical appreciation life. It may have something to do with the fact that, while in college, I was next-door to a guy who was Morrison-nuts...the kind of guy that insisted that Jim Morrison had faked his death and was just waiting for the right moment to come out of hiding. As such, he blasted The Doors' albums incessantly for the school year 1981, and I was over the whole thing pretty much by the time I'd graduated.

However, time has unburdened me of this irrational Doors-disgust. Which means that I was really happy to see this CD reissued as a precursor to the massive Doors campaign of 2007. A new box set, all the individual albums remastered, etc. But as a casual fan, "The Best of The Doors" is all I really need. It covers all the obvious radio hits along with some choice album tracks. (And just as obviously, ignores the postmortem Morrison records, 1971's Other Voices and 1972's Full Circle.) It also re-established Morrison's shamanistic personality. There was a deep, deep charisma about the man and it comes through on all the songs here. The other 3/4 of The Doors were just as unique.

Jim Morrison's ghost and the subsequent collapse of the band after his death - not to forget the incessant squabbling since - tends to cloud the surviving members' contributions. Ray Manzarek's keyboards are one of the reasons The Doors never needed a bass player. Those psychedelic swirls and heavy foundations provided The Doors with their pulse. Guitarist Robbie Krieger added classical fills next to Manzarek's keyboards and also wrote many of The Doors' biggest hits (including "Light My Fire"). John Densmore was a jazz drummer who brought that influence to the band, and he remains the member most opposed to the "reunion" projects. The Doors were always greater than the sum of their parts, and once the cloaking charisma of Morrison was gone, the atoms just blew apart.

The band, as members to a whole, mixed all those influences up. From the pop sense of "Light My Fire" to the Oedipal weirdness that fueled "The End," they were totally fearless about following their collective muse. They responded to accusations of pop-sellout by going to the deep blues of "LA Woman" and by nailing a cabaret number like Brecht/Weill's "The Alabama Song." They even managed one of the most paranoid mellow songs ever in "Riders On The Storm."

That is what makes "The Best Of The Doors" worth it. You may find yourself tempted to get some of the singular CD's later (I'd suggest the debut and "LA Woman"), but for a load into the MP3 player, this double CD set fills the gap. Jim Morrison remains a mystery, a loaded question that exited the world before the answers had time to form. (Or he got old enough to be boring.)

Presenting radio with one of the best rock ballads ever, Cornerstone gave Chicago's Styx their big break with the number one single "Babe," which held that spot for two weeks in October of 1979. "Babe" is a smooth, keyboard-pampered love song that finally credited Dennis De Young's textured vocals. While this single helped the album climb all the way to the number two spot on the charts, the rest of the tracks from Cornerstone weren't nearly half as strong. "Why Me" made it to number 26, and both "Lights" and "Boat on the River" implement silky harmonies and welcoming choruses, yet failed to get off the ground. De Young's keyboards are effective without overly dominating the music, and the band's gritty rock & roll acerbity has been slightly sanded down to compliment the commercial market. The songs aren't as tight or assertive as their last few albums, but Shaw's presence can be felt strongly on most of the tracks, especially where the writing is concerned. Outside of "Babe," Cornerstone tends to sound a tad weaker
than one would expect.

Dennis De Young - keyboards, vocals
James (JY) Young - guitars, guitar synthesizer, autoharp, vocals
Tommy Shaw - electric and acoustic guitars, mandolin, autoharp, vocals

This is the eighth Huntingtons CD to add to my collection, and I hear there's two more to follow within the next year! I get worn out just trying to comprehend this feat. The Huntingtons rock and they rock hard!

This album could be called both a "tribute album" and a "covers album." The Huntingtons certainly pay tribute to the Ramones by performing their songs, but they do it so accurately close and straight–ahead that it would be more fitting to call this a "covers album." Besides making the choice to perform the songs straight–up like this, the band needs two key ingredients to pull it off — musicians who know the material and can play it; and a singer who is on key and doesn't sound too drastically different from the original. Thankfully, Mikey's bass, Cliffy and AJ's guitars, and Mikee's drums fit the bill. And most importantly, Mikey's lead vocals are dead–on accurate.

This album is pure (punk) pop. At times it's even so clean–sounding that even your mom (if she was a teenager in the 50's) will love it (Give "She's A Sensation" a spin for her!). The biggest question left for this audience would be the obvious: Where is the spirituality? Why is this being sold in Christian bookstores (actually, it's not. We found this out after going to press. This is a general market release only), and why is a Christian magazine covering it? Good question. While not full of rebellion, vulgarity, or any other "R–rated" lyrical material, this is certainly a secular album. It's basically a piece of punk rock fun that's wrapped up and packaged by Christians. When a Christian artist makes an apparent departure from their previous work (which is debatable here), it is certainly an expectation from fans to read about it in their Christian rock magazine or see it in their local Christian bookstore. So, the reason for the attention here is obviously based upon the performers' lifestyle and faith, rather than the content therein.

Blind Faith is the self-titled album by the British supergroup Blind Faith, which consisted of Eric Clapton (The Yardbirds, Cream), Ginger Baker (Graham Bond Organisation, Cream), Steve Winwood (Spencer Davis Group, Traffic) and Rick Grech (Family). There was an intense buzz about the band and its debut album Blind Faith, which on release topped Billboard's Pop Albums chart in America (as it did the UK and Canadian charts) and peaked at #40 on the Black Albums chart, an impressive feat for a British rock quartet. In addition, Rolling Stone published three reviews of the album in their September 6, 1969 issue, which were written by Ed Leimbacher, Lester Bangs, and John Morthland.
